Timeline
November 15, 2005 - Submissions due by 11:59pm EST
January 15, 2006 - Notification of acceptance/rejection emailed to primary contact submitter
March 6, 2006 - Final, camera ready copy is due

The final, camera ready copy is the paper that will go in the proceedings which will be distributed at the conference and through Lawrence Erlbaum and Associates.

Innovative Session Submission Guidelines
We invite papers on the entire range of topics relevant to the Learning Sciences. Consistent with the theme, reports addressing the impact of the learning sciences on policy or teaching practices are favored.

Innovative sessions are meant to encourage creative strategies for engaging the audience in dialogue about a topic. Participants are encouraged to submit a proposal for a type of presentation that opens the conference to ways of communicating that move beyond the traditional presentation approach. The proposal should clearly outline the strategy for engaging the audience.

Examples of an innovative session might, but should not be limited to:

  • Interactive poster session where a set of posters are provided, an introduction given, time for people to circulate, followed by open discussion.
  • Panel that provides opportunities for participants to discuss a subject with each other and with members of the audience in an informal manner

Sessions will be 90 minutes.

Submission is online; click the submission tab to submit a proposal. When you are ready to submit, the following information will be required:

  • Identification of Session Organizer including name, affiliation, address, email, phone number
  • Session title
  • Title of any papers or posters
  • Name and affiliation of up to 4 presenters for each paper
  • If no papers/posters, include list of participants
  • Identification of 3 keywords (in decreasing order of relevance). The keywords will be used in the index for the proceedings.
  • Abstract ' text only, 150 word maximum ' clearly describing the rationale for the session as a whole. We recommend that you prepare your abstract as a Word document, make changes, corrections and revisions on that document; then cut and past in to the text box provided.
  • Full paper submission It is recommended (but not required) that you use the formatting guidelines that will be required should your submission be accepted. Download guidelines (pdf). At a minimum, the following formatting is required
    • Submitted in PDF format
    • Must not contain names of any authors
    • Title and abstract must be on the first page
    • Maximum length of seven (7) additional pages (8.5 x 11) including figures and references.
    • 1" margins
    • Single spaced
    • APA style citations
  • Identification of audio-visual equipment required for your presentation, if any

Evaluation
To create a high-quality program representing the newest ideas and results in the field, submitted papers will be evaluated in a blind peer review process with respect to:

  • Originality
  • Quality
  • Significance of research
  • Relevance to a broad audience of learning sciences researchers
  • Clarity
  • Consistency with the conference theme
